I have READ through my History book.
But did not memorise it. :X
The only things I remember are " on 8(?) December 1941, slightly after 4am, the people of singapore were awaken by the sounds of explosions. japanese warplanes have flown over singapore and bombed the city. meanwhile, japan has also invaded northern malaya. in less than 70 days, singapore fell into the japanese. "
and " After the World War I, Britain is financially drained and is unable to maintain a naval presense in the Far East. The Britain needed all its warships to remain in Europe, however, they also saw the need to protect their empire in the Far East. In order to defend it's empire, the Britain decided on the " Main Fleet to Singapore " strategy. In order to maintain a fleet, a strong naval base had to be built in the Far East. Singapore was chosen to be the naval base and constrution was completed in 1938(?). In order to protect it's naval base, 15-inch guns usually mounted on ships, were installed facing the sea to prevent any attacks from the sea. Military Airfields were also built in Tengah and Sembawang. Underground bunkers were also built in several places like Fort Canning, Labrador and Sembawang. "
Those are from chapter 6. And from Chaper 9,
Why was the PAP government interested in a merger with Malaya?(should be the Qn) :X
" The PAP government felt that Singapore's survival as an independant state would be difficult as Singapore lacked natural resources and faced declining entrepot trade and a growing population which required jobs. Furthermore, the Malayan government introduced imports and exports tariffs on the goods sold between the two countries.
The PAP government hoped that through this merger a Common Market would be established so that goods can be sold and bought freely without being taxed. The PAP government felt that the only hope for complete freedom was through a merger with Malaya. Even though internal self-government was previously granted in 1959, there were still other places like external defence and internal security that were still under the british control. "
Okay, those are DEFINITELY from my memory. -.- Not copied. Still got some more but lazy type out. Write out better. :X I'm gonna study either later or tmrw morning.
